Down from the Castle, I turn around the corner and ...

Jewelry, scented stones, high fashion garments and perfumes.

It is in a small wild carnation, growing among the clear rocks of the island, the "secret" of Capri's renowned perfumes. A little plant that turns pink in summer, when it scatters its delicate fragrance into the air. And it was in summer that it revealed the peculiarity that would make it precious. It happened when Queen Joan I of Anjou landed on the island in the summer of 1380. Suddenly warned that the sovereign would not miss a visit to the Charterhouse of St. James, the then abbot, having no time for anything else, rushed to gather colorful wildflowers with which he adorned the rooms that were about to welcome the sovereign. When, three days later, the abbot went to remove the bouquets, he noticed that the water in which they remained had a pleasant scent, which came from the rustic pink carnations in full seasonal bloom. And so the Dianthus silvestris revealed its magic, inspiring the creation of Capri perfumes. And to this day, the little rock flower is the basis of the typical essences created on the island.
